Dye Easter Eggs With Rice

For this project you need only 2 ingredients:

  • eggs (boiled) – use as many as you want to
  • rice

Instructions

First you will need to boil eggs and cool them for a few minutes.

IMPORTANT! You want eggs to be warmer because the color will stick better.

How to prepare colored rice?

Pour 1/2 cup of rice in a bag #1 and squeeze a liberal amount of red food coloring into it.

Shake the rice so it is coated with red color.

If you have 4 kids, let each kid make their own bag with their favorite colors.

So, the bag 2 can be with blue color, bag 3 with pink color, bag 4 with green color and so on.

You can make as many as you want to. Or you can use just one color. It is your choice.

After you made bag 1 with red color, start adding 1 boiled and warm egg into the bag.

Close the bag and shake the egg for 30 to 45 seconds.

Check the egg. So pretty…you just made the most beautiful Easter eggs. Ever.

IMPORTANT: Rice will dry very quickly so keep adding more color into the bag.

Keep going until you used all cooked eggs.

Put the gloves on and let’s start Picasso.

Start adding your favorite color. There is no rules.

Just play with your favorite colors. Add a little red, blue, yellow, pink or any color you

have and love. (I was using toothpick to add food color)

Repeat the same process for all other eggs.

Now, pour your remaining vinegar / water mixture into empty spray bottle.

Spray all the eggs well.

Easter Project 3 – How to naturally dye eggs using onions

Happy Easter from the best food blog 5starcookies - Enjoy your homemade dyed eggs
Happy Easter from the best food blog 5starcookies – Enjoy your homemade dyed eggs

Ingredients:

Onion Skin – 3 cups but you can use less or more. There is no rules really. You can’t make mistake with amount of onions.

Eggs – I used 30 organic eggs. They can be white or brown.

What else do you need?

Vinegar, Water, Nylon Stocking or pantyhose (buy in $ Store)

Important: You need to buy nylon stocking or pantyhose. (See the picture below.)

Instructions:

Place the egg inside of pantyhose and tied secure knot.

Add another egg into the same pantyhose.

Tie and secure. Now you have two eggs tied together and being next to each other

Tell them to be friends and get along. It is important in life to be a social being…

Add another egg and keep going until you have 5 or 6 eggs together inside of that one pantyhose. See the picture below.

Use another pantyhose and repeat all steps above. So, if you want to dye 30 eggs you will need 5 pantyhose.

(5×6=30)…If you don’t understand math, just keep going until you have all your eggs inside of the pantyhose.

The next step is to find your saucepan which is full of the onion skins.

Now, place 12 eggs (2 pantyhose) into a saucepan with the onion skin. Cover the eggs with the onion skin.

Just imagine you are protecting eggs from the enemy.

Then ADD WATER and 1 TBS of white vinegar. So, how many cups of water do you need to use?

There is no really a straight answer to this question and I will answer like a politician.

Use as many as you need to cover all eggs and onion skins.

Important:

When water starts to boil, boil for 25 to 30 minutes on medium temperature.

Take eggs out of the pot.

Gently remove the pantyhose.

Rub them with the olive oil (or bacon).

Enjoy!

The color will be different…It depends how much of the onion skin you used.

So if you are done with fun projects with your kids, what else can you do?

Of course you can READ. Reading is super important for all kids.

Because of that my friend Miranda is suggesting… see below:

Cozy, Crafty and Creative Books For Children

In these crazy times, more than ever children need literature. They need an escape, to snuggle up and forget the world around them for a little while. I am an Early Childhood Educator with over ten years experience working with children. One of my favourite things to do is read to children and then have a discussion and do an activity based on the book we just read. Not only will it help pass the time and possibly ease some of the anxieties of what’s going on in the world around them it, they may learn some new vocabulary, gain new interests, not to mention it is a wonderful time to bond with your child.

Crafty Llama by Mike Kerr is a sweet book all about friendship and being creative. Llama has the whole day ahead of her and wants to do something creative with it. She begins to knit things for all of her friends and her friends also get creative with their own crafting mediums. Her friend Beaver however, would like to make something useful. Enjoy reading this book and seeing what all the cute creatures get up to making and what they use it for.

Crafty Suggestion or Kids Projects

After I read this book to the children at my centre, I provided them with some scrap yarn and glue and asked them to draw a simple picture of anything they want then either outline the picture with the yarn or fill it in, let them be creative and use their own imagination. I favour process arts and crafts over product. Let the children go to town and do their own thing. The end result may surprise and delight you and your child.

BTW, before I say bye to you, I think you need a drink.
