Yes, the poutine is delicious, simple and easy recipe to make. You don’t need 100 ingredients to make an amazing lunch or dinner.

In this case you need only 3. Also, I am not going to talk about calories or how healthy the recipe is for you. (so let’s not talk or think about it).

This post is all about JOY.

Joy of easy Poutine recipe. BTW, do you want to know a little history about this recipe?

In 1957. the restaurant owner in Quebec took a special order from a regular customer asking for a plate of fries topped with cheese and brown gravy. The owner called this dish poutine which is local slang for “a real mess”. To learn more about this recipe, please check the LINK.

MAKING EASY CANADIAN POUTINE

Ingredients

6 large potatoes

1 package cheese curds

1 can of St Hubert Poutine gravy

INSTRUCTIONS

Peel potatoes and cut them into sticks about an inch wide. (or any size you like, just make sure they are uniform)

Soak them in a large bowl covered with water for 30 minutes. (LONGER IS BETTER)

Your next step is to drain and dry potato.

From this moment you can fry or bake potatoes.

I like to bake because it is healthier option for me.

Preheat oven to 400 F.

Using a large bowl toss the fries with 3 TBSP oil, salt, pepper and oregano.

Arrange potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for about 35 minutes.

Be sure potatoes is baked.

Making Gravy

Pour the gravy from the can into a medium saucepan.

Heat gravy until boils.

SERVING POUTINE

Arrange fries on a plate, top with 1/2 cup cheese curds and cover with the hot gravy.

Season to taste.

Enjoy and share.

Optional: Top with feta cheese, red pepper, onion, garlic.

DESCRIPTION

This cake is the easiest cake to make. Very simple base or sponge cake base made using 2 eggs.

Once you have the base, you can start building your the most amazing Nutella cake:

  • Layer of Nutella
  • Yellow filling
  • Hazelnuts
  • Chocolate Filling

Decoration: grounded hazelnuts, grated chocolate, whip cream

Important: You will make Yellow filling and Chocolate filling from one simple recipe. (yes, it is that easy. 2 for 1).

  • icing sugar
  • eggs, large (organic, if you can. Visit your local farmers market)
  • hazelnuts
  • milk (2%)
  • butter (unsalted)
  • chocolate (semi-sweet)
  • Dr.Oetker Vanilla pudding
  • Nutella

Optional: Jaffa Cakes or Oreo Cookies

EQUIPMENT

KitchenAid Mixer or your favorite mixer

Mixing bowls

6 inch baking pan, removable bottom

MAKING NUTELLA EASIEST CAKE

Ingredients

Cake Base

2 eggs, large

1/3 cup regular, white sugar

1/3 cup flour (all purpose, unbleached)

1/8 tsp baking powder

Filling (Yellow and Chocolate)

5 egg yolks

1/3 cup +1 TBSP sugar

2 packages Dr. Oetker Vanilla puddding (can’t use instant)

3 3/4 cups milk (2%)

1/2 cup butter, unsalted

1/3 cup icing sugar

3 oz chocolate, semi-sweet (or use unsweetened)

1 cup Nutella

1/2 cup hazelnuts, grounded or chopped

Optional: Jaffa cakes, Oreo cookies…

INSTRUCTIONS

How to make Nutella cake base.

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Line bottoms of 6 inch cake pans with parchment paper. (do not grease the sides or the bottom). Set aside.

Mixing Bowl:

First mix eggs and sugar for about 6 minutes.

Mix until the mixture becomes thick, fluffy and triples in volume, for about 6 minutes.

Your next step is adding the flour. You are not going to use mixer at this point.

Add the flour, baking powder and fold with a spatula. Stop mixing when no streaks of flour remain.

Be sure the flour is incorporated.

Important #3: Do not over-mix.

Pour the batter into 6 inch prepared pan.

Bake for about 19 minutes but start checking after 15 minutes. ( be sure to check using the toothpick)

Insert the wooden toothpick near the center of the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.

Cool the cake. Remove from the pan.

Making Nutella Cake Filling

Add 5 eggs yolks and sugar into the mixing bowl. Mix for about 3 minutes.

Then add 2 Dr. Oetker Vanilla pudding and 1/2 cup milk. (room temperature).

Mix until all ingredients are incorporated. (another minute or two)

Meanwhile, add 3 1/4 cup cold milk into large pot.

Bring the milk to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the egg/pudding mixture.

Return to heat and stir non stop for about 3 minutes or until thickness.

Remove from heat, transfer to the mixing bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let it cool.

While the filling is cooling, mix butter and icing sugar until incorporated. (2 minutes)

Add cooled yellow filling to the mixed butter.

Mix all ingredients until incorporated.

MELTING CHOCOLATE

Melt chocolate using the double method. Cool it. Set aside.

ASSEMBLY OF Easy Nutella Cake

Using the same 6 inch removable pan start building the cake.

Place sponge cake at the bottom of the pan.

Add 1 cup Nutella (or as much to cover the base of the cake).

Cover the Nutella with Jaffa cakes or Oreo cookies.

Add half of yellow filling on the top of Jaffa cakes or Oreo cookies.

Sprinkle with grounded hazelnuts.

Stop assembly for a second or until you make chocolate filling.

Important: Add melted, cooled chocolate to the second half of yellow filling. Mix until incorporated.

Pour chocolate filling on top of yellow filling.

Transfer the whole cake to the fridge for 6 hours or overnight.

NEXT DAY:

Decorate with hazelnuts, shaved chocolate or whip cream.

-make 6 inch sponge cake

-Cool it

-Make yellow filling

-Melt chocolate. Cool it.

-Assembly the cake in this order:

  • sponge cake
  • Nutella
  • Jaffa cakes
  • half of the yellow filling
  • sprinkle with grounded hazelnuts
  • add melted chocolate to second part of yellow filling and you just made chocolate filling
  • add chocolate filing on top of yellow filling
  • decorate as you wish

Quick Note

Jaffa Cakes – you can buy in the Walmart (international section) or check amazon.

Hazelnut – use toasted hazelnuts. Do you know how to toast hazelnut? Check the LINK

Yellow Filling – If you want you can divide yellow filling into two separate bowls. Add melted chocolate to second part and mix it. So, you can do assembly faster but you will have two bowls to clean.

Butter – I used organic. It is expensive but I wanted to use the best ingredients for this Nutella cake.

Chocolate – I used semi-sweet. You can use your favorite. (unsweetened, 70% cocoa… and so on)

Vanilla Pudding – YOU CAN’T USE INSTANT. It has to be Dr. Oetker. (check the picture below)

It is an easy recipe to make. Don’t roll your eyes. Yes, it has a few extra steps but it is worth it.

Making BANANA CAKE RECIPE WITH NUTELLA FROSTING

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter (unsalted)

1 cup white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 eggs, large

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

3/4 cup mashed ripe bananas

1/2 cup sour cream (14%)

3/4 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

2 cups flour (all purpose, unbleached)

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

Nutella Frosting

1 cup Nutella

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 tsp Whip It

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Line 9 by 13 pan with aluminum foil. Set aside.

Add the butter, white sugar and brown sugar to the mixing bowl. Mix until incorported (3 minutes)

Then add eggs, one at the time. Mix in.

Your next step is to add pure vanilla extract and mashed bananas.

In another bowl add flour, cinnamon and baking soda.

After that add half flour mixture to the egg mixture. Mix in.

Then add sour cream and mix in again.

Finish with the rest of flour mixture and mix everything together.

Then add chocolate chips and walnuts.

Stir using the spatula.

Pour the batter into prepared 9 x 13 pan.

Mix heavy cream and Whip it together.

If you don’t like Nutella frosting, you can make this cake chocolate icing.

5 oz chocolate (semi-sweet or use your favorite kind…unsweetened)

2 Tbsp oil

Just melt chocolate and oil (use double boiler method)

No frosting – Base Banana Cake

If you like plain banana recipe and you don’t like Nutella frosting or chocolate icing then just make the base banana cake.

Slice to your favorite size and enjoy.

Baking soda – no aluminum (super important to me). You can buy baking soda and powder in the healthy stores or organic section of any food store

Sour cream – full fat and I used 14%

Let’s start with Christmas baking this second. And I am going to start with my first Christmas Recipe 2020 called ….

Description of No Bake Nanaimo Bars

Legend has it that a local housewife from Nanaimo created this recipe for a magazine cooking contest. And of course she won first prize. Because of her we know that Nanaimo is the city in British Columbia. Do you see how powerful baking is? You can learn geography and enjoy the best no-bake bars. So, let’s learn a little more about very Canadian traditional Nanaimo bars.

It consist of three layers: the first one or the base is made of wafer crumbs, walnuts and coconut. The middle layer is made of custard icing and the top layer is the chocolate ganache. Easy, don’t you think.

I made many versions of this recipe like Mint Nanaimo Bars , Cappuccino Nanaimo Bars, Peanut Butter Nanaimo Bars, Kit Kat Nanaimo Bars, Raspberry Nanaimo Bars and more…Yes, this is my favorite recipe for many reason. And it started in December of 1995 when in IGA store I bought my first box of Nanaimo bars…and the love story started…

Nanaimo Bars Number 1 Recipe -how to make homemade Christmas version

Making Original Nanaimo Bars

Ingredients

First Layer

1/2 cup butter, unsalted

1/4 cup sugar

1/3 cup cocoa

1 egg

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 2/3 cups graham crumbs

3/4 cup coconut

3/4 cup walnuts, finely chopped

Middle Layer

3/4 cup butter

6 TBSP milk

6 TBSP Bird’s custard powder

4 1/2 cups icing sugar

Top Layer

5 oz chocolate

2 TBSP butter or oil

INSTRUCTIONS

Line 9 x 9 inch square pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper. Set aside.

In a medium size bowl add graham crumbs, coconut and walnuts.

Then using a medium saucepan over low heat combine the butter, sugar,cocoa, egg until the mixture boils.

Boil for 2 minutes and add vanilla extract.

Remove from heat and stir graham crumbs, coconut and walnuts.

Press the base into the prepared lined pan.

Place into to fridge until firm (about 30 minutes).

Making Yellow Custard Icing

Using a mixing bowl combine custard powder and milk.

Stir until smooth.

Add icing sugar and butter.

Mix using the whisk attachment for about 3 to 5 minutes. (high speed)

Spread the filling evenly over the base and return to fridge of freezer while you make the topping or chocolate ganache.

Top Layer – Chocolate Ganache

Using a double boiler method melt 5 oz chocolate and butter. (or oil if you are using)

Spread over the second layer.

Refrigerate one more time for at least one hour.

Then cut the Nanaimo Bars to your favorite size or shape.

And you made it. The best traditional Canadian Nanaimo Bars.

STORAGE

Store in airtight container in the fridge for a week.

Another option: Freeze.

FINAL NOTE for the best Nanaimo Bars

Original Nanaimo Bars is my favorite Christmas baking treat since forever.

While I always make them in December, they are actually great any time of year. From January to December this is the perfect dessert served with cappuccino or coffee.

I don’t know why but this pizza is very often forgotten and seriously underrated. But now when masks are covering our faces and life is different this pizza is stepping up and saying: I am here to shine. It is my time …

Easy Calzone Pizza Recipe – super easy recipe to make

Description of Easy Calzone Pizza

The real calzone is just mozzarella, tomato and fresh basil…but I like to add a few other ingredients like spinach, feta cheese, peppers and so on. So, if you are a real Italian don’t judge me. I don’t like to follow the rules and I like shortcuts when it comes to baking. Speaking of shortcuts I am going to use my favorite pizza dough. Do you remember this recipe?

So, yes you can make this pizza any day of the week. Easy and extremely yummy. Also, endlessly customizable.

SHOPPING LIST

  • pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • mozzarella cheese
  • feta cheese
  • mushrooms
  • oregano
  • olive oil
  • pizza sauce

Action Time

Making Easy Calzone Pizza Recipe

Ingredients

pizza dough

Fillings:

mushrooms

mozzarella cheese

feta cheese

oregano

olive oil

pizza sauce

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 400 F.

Roll pizza dough into a circle. (my was 8 inch)

Then spread out a little sauce, leaving a room around the edge. (this is important, be sure to leave a room around the edge of pizza)

Top with your favorite toppings.

I used mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, feta cheese, oregano.

Lift the top of the circle up and fold over the filled bottom of the circle, lining up the edges.

Press edges firmly with fork to seal.

Important: Be sure it is seal all the way.

Spread some pizza sauce on top, mozzarella cheese, oregano.

Place calzone on a parchment lined baking sheet (or aluminum foil)

SUPER IMPORTANT: Cut 3 small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

Bake at 400 F for 17 to 20 minutes.

INSTRUCTIONS

Line a baking pan 9 x 13 with aluminum foil. Spray with baking spray. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Flour mixture:

In a bowl add flour, cocoa, baking soda, cinnamon, salt.

Add the following ingredients to your mixing bowl:

butter, oil and sugar.

Mix until incorporated.

Then add eggs, vanilla and mix until blended.

Your next step is to add buttermilk and mix in.

Then add flour mixture and mix until the flour is blended.

Meanwhile grate the zucchini and add to batter.

Eggs – Use large, organic eggs

Oil – I used Crisco oil

Butter – should be softened

Chocolate Chips – sweet chocolate chips, Hershey’s

Buttermilk – if you don’t have buttermilk you can make your own. Use 1/2 cup of regular milk and add 1/2 TBSP white vinegar. Stir and let it sit for 10 minutes. Use it for this recipe.

DESCRIPTION of Tiramisu

TIRAMISU FERRERO ITALIAN CAKE is no bake dessert. I will repeat NO BAKE and super easy to make. So, if you have no baking experience and you are looking for an easy dessert to impress this is THE ONE.

This Italian no-bake cake is made of 4 layers: 2 layers of coffee dip lady fingers, 2 layers of Nutella Cheese Filling and everything topped with Ferrero chocolate. BTW, how is your heart…still beating normally. Mine is already in deep state of nirvana…

Our next step is to have all ingredients ready. You need to buy the following – check below.

SHOPPING LIST

  • lady fingers
  • Nutella
  • Philadelphia cheese (original)
  • icing sugar
  • heavy cream (33% or more)
  • coffee or your favorite juice
  • Ferrero chocolate
  • Whip It (if you can find)

Equipment

KitchenAid Mixer (hand mixer or any mixer you have)

ACTION TIME

Making Tiramisu Ferrero Italian Cake

Ingredients

Lady Fingers

2 cups very strong coffee or your favorite juice (orange, cranberry…)

8 oz Philadelphia cheese

1/3 cup icing sugar

3 cups Nutella

1 cup heavy cream

Dr. Oetker Whip It

Top Layer (this is optional)

2 cups heavy cream

1 pouch Dr. Oetker Whip It

INSTRUCTIONS

Line 8 by 8 or 9 by 9 pan with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Set aside.

Make your favorite coffee. Pour it into deep plate or bowl.

Now, let’s make the filling.

Nutella Cheese Filling

Beat 1 cup whip cream and Whip It.

In another bowl mix 8 oz Philadelphia cheese and icing sugar.

Add whipped cream into cheese mixture and fold gently.

Be sure cheese and whip cream are fully incorporated.

Then add 3 cups Nutella and mix for a minute. (for this step you can use your mixer)

And you are almost done. Your next step is assembling the best Tiramisu Ferrero cake.

ASSEMBLING THE TIRAMISU

Soak the lady fingers in the coffee or your favorite juice mixture briefly. Don’t let them get soggy.

Arrange the lady fingers in the bottom of the pan. (some of the lady fingers you will need to trim in order to fit into the pan)

Then add half of your Nutella Cheese filling and spread it evenly.

Add a second layer of prepared lady fingers to the pan.

Add the remainder of the Nutella cheese filling and spread evenly.

Optional: Mix 2 cups heavy cream and whip it. Pour over Nutella filling.

Decorate with Ferrero chocolate.

Let the tiramisu set up for at least a few hours or overnight in the fridge.

Storage: Store in the fridge for up to a week.

TIRAMISU FERRERO ITALIAN CAKE is no bake dessert. I will repeat NO BAKE and super easy to make. This is is made of 4 layers: 2 layers of coffee dip lady fingers, 2 layers of Nutella Cheese Filling and everything topped with Ferrero chocolate

Ingredients

  • Lady Fingers
  • 2 cups very strong coffee or your favorite juice (orange, cranberry...)
  • 8 oz Philadelphia cheese
  • 1/3 cup icing sugar
  • 3 cups Nutella
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Dr. Oetker Whip It
  • Top Layer (this is optional)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 pouch Dr. Oetker Whip It

Instructions

    Line 8 by 8 or 9 by 9 pan with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Set aside.

    Make your favorite coffee. Pour it into deep plate or bowl.

    Now, let's make the filling.

    Nutella Cheese Filling

    Beat 1 cup whip cream and Whip It.

    In another bowl mix 8 oz Philadelphia cheese and icing sugar.

    Add whipped cream into cheese mixture and fold gently.

    Be sure cheese and whip cream are fully incorporated.

    Then add 3 cups Nutella and mix for a minute. (for this step you can use your mixer)

    And you are almost done. Your next step is assembling the best Tiramisu Ferrero cake.

    ASSEMBLING THE TIRAMISU

    Soak the lady fingers in the coffee or your favorite juice mixture briefly. Don't let them get soggy.

    Arrange the lady fingers in the bottom of the pan. (some of the lady fingers you will need to trim in order to fit into the pan)

    Then add half of your Nutella Cheese filling and spread it evenly.

    Add a second layer of prepared lady fingers to the pan.

    Add the remainder of the Nutella cheese filling and spread evenly.

    Optional: Mix 2 cups heavy cream and whip it. Pour over Nutella filling.

    Decorate with Ferrero chocolate.

    Let the tiramisu set up for at least a few hours or overnight in the fridge.

    Storage: Store in the fridge for up to a week.

Lemon Bar Crust

1 cup icing sugar

2 cup flour, sifted

1 cup butter, melted and unsalted

Lemon Filling

4 eggs

2 1/8 cups sugar

1 tsp baking powder

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Line 9 x 13 baking pan with aluminum foil, spray with baking spray. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, stir together flour and icing sugar. Add melted butter and mix until all ingredients are blended.

Press into to bottom of 9 by 13 baking pan using your fingers.

Bake at 350 F for 10 to 12 minutes.

While the lemon crust is being baked, prepare the filling.

In a medium size bowl sift sugar, baking powder and flour. Set aside.

Beat 4 eggs until light using your favorite mixer.

Then add sugar mixture to the eggs.

Stir in using the spatula.

After that add fresh lemon juice and stir until incorporated.

Pour the mixture over baked crust and return to the oven.

Bake for an additional 25 minutes or until set.

Cool.

Decorate with icing sugar.

EASY FRENCH SALAD FROM CROATIA

Ingredients

2 cups mayonnaise

1 cup sour cream

1 TBSP mustard

2 cusp carrots, diced

1 1/2 cups potatoes, diced

3/4 cup pickles, diced

2 cups peas, frozen.

salt, black pepper to taste

Optional: diced boiled eggs, diced ham, diced apples, cooked skinless chicken

INSTRUCTIONS

Peel potatoes and carrots. Cook in water with pinch of salt.

When water boils cook until potatoes and carrot are barely fork tender.

Drain, cool and dice. (or cut into your favorite shapes)

Separately cook peas. Drain.

So, at this moment you have diced potatoes, carrots and cooked peas.

Using a large bowl add mayonnaise, sour cream and mustard.

Add salt and pepper to your taste.

Mix all ingredients using a metal spoon.

Your next step is to add the diced carrots, potatoes and peas.
